HISTORY OF NCC IN JAC
NCC unit in JAC was established in 1973 and this unit is affiliated to 2TN (G) Bn NCC, Madurai. Initially 40 Cadets were enrolled in the NCC and the present strength is 160. The participation in NCC carries one credit. Additional credit is given for the participation in camps. NCC units are established in the campus to supplement the practice of the values insisted upon as per the goals and objectives of the College.
INCEPTION
NCC was inaugurated in 1973; JAC has shown enormous growth in the past 46 years. NCC was started with our college by the combined efforts of the management, the principal and the commander of Madurai group Col.Sathyaneshan. Mrs. Kalyani was the first NCC officer of the college. She encouraged the students to join in NCC and platoon was started. We hope and try that our performance also will improve in geometric progression in the years to come.

MILESTONES
One of the greatest milestone of NCC in JAC was that 16 cadets attended the prestigious Republic Day Parade and 4 cadets attended the All India Thal Sainik Camp at New Delhi.
The strength of cadets was increased gradually from 45 to 160. The activities of NCC in our college practiced with full of enthusiasm.
2cadets received the Deputy Director General Special Scholarship from Deputy General, New Delhi and one cadet received the Best cadet award during Rajpath Parade in New Delhi. One cadet received the Gold medal for excelling in firing and a cash award of Rs. 400 from Tamil Nadu Government.
SPECIALTY
NCC stands for the National Cadets Corps which is the Indian military cadet corps. NCC is a highly reputed body which is also a second line of defense. In India, many youngsters are trained in line with defense in case the need arises. If young students want to make it their career option, then being a NCC cadet holds a lot of weight, as they are directly associated with the ministry of defense. Not only they get to learn many valuable things but also are entitled to receive Rs 700.
Other than just military training the cadets also learn several other valuable things such as selflessness, honesty, discipline, hard work and ways to build confidence and gain leadership qualities.
- Since NCC camps are held all over India therefore there is training in a various parts of the country, hence students get an opportunity of visit new places and learn the art of independence. They are required to use their social skills and their senses to get to know new places and adapt to the varying environment. Other than just social skills they also get to learn about the history and art of the new place.
NCC cadets learn to take pride in themselves and the training also strengthens the spirit of being an Indian. This helps them gear towards joining the forces and providing their 100% when the country is in need of them.
Other than military activities, the cadets are taught other skills such as parachuting, paragliding and basic aviation courses because of which they have an edge over others when appearing for the armed forces. Other than that, they also have a special quota which is very useful in case of final selection to join the armed forces.
Under the regime of exchange programmed, there are a few selected students who get an opportunity to visit other countries and learn various things which are practiced in other nations and exchange experiences with cadets who happen to come to India from foreign lands.
There are a total of 32 seats which are set aside for cadets who hold NCC certificate provided they have scored 50% in graduation with at least a B grade in C level examination. If all this suffices, then they are eligible for SSC without even qualifying for a CDS written exam. All they have to do is clear the SSB interview.
Other than SSB they also get a preference over other in the CRF and BSF. Other than just armed forces there are several central and state Government organizations who give special preference to NCC cadets.

Lt. K. Kalyani, Department of Zoology, was the Company Commander of the Army wing of the college from 1972 to 1977. She was retired voluntarily and serving the Sub unit for 5 years. After her tenure, Major. K.J. Chanthini, Department of Physics was appointed and serving the Sub units from 1977 to 2011. After her retirement Lt. L. Merlin Dayana, Department of zoology completed her PRCN course and commissioned on 7 August, 2012 as Lieutenant in NCC Army at Officers training Academy, Gwalior by the Minister of Defense, New Delhi.

SEMINARS/CONFERENCES/PROGRAMMES
Activities carried out by NCC
- The NCC Cadets get regular service training and leadership training on Saturdays.
- The NCC Cadets attend All India Camps like National Launch Camp, Annual Launch Camp, Thal Sanick Camp and Republic Day Camp and participate in trekking and rock climbing.
- They involve in the organization of the awareness programmes, rallies, relief work, total sanitation programme, blood donation, health camps, rural education programmes, literacy and self-employment programmes for the dropouts from schools, and for the under privileged women.
- The NCC Cadets annually appear for ‘B’ and ‘C’ certificate examinations which enhance their chances of employability and incentives are provided by the central Government to the certificate holders for recruitment in the ranks in the Defense Forces.
- It inculcates the spirit of adventure, courage to face hardship, inquisitiveness and love for nature in the minds of the Cadets.
- NCC Special Entry Scheme for Senior Division Wings graduates in Officers Training Academy in group 19-25 years with 50% marks, through District Directorate General of States go for direct interview (Staff Selection Board) every year. The Cadets are exempted from Combined Defense Services Examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission.
- Lt. Dr. L. Merlin Dayana, Conducted online workshop, webinar and Quiz in 2020 on behalf of NCC Unit Madurai and J.A College Periyakulam.
