Department of Zoology
PROFILE
The Department of Zoology was established in 1977 offering B.Sc. Zoology. In 1988 the department was upgraded into P. G. department and started offering M. Sc. Zoology. As the demand of the Life Science courses increased an unaided stream of B. Sc. Zoology was started in 1995. With introduction of Autonomy in 2004, our curriculum has been designed to accommodate the emerging trends in accordance with employability. During 2005 – 2006 the PG Department was elevated to research department by M. T. University offering M. Phil. Zoology Programme and emerged as fully fledged research Centre in the year 2013. The Department to its credit has 10 aided faculty members with doctoral degree and 5 unaided faculty members pursuing Ph. D. Five faculty are recognised Research Supervisors of M. T. University and 13 research scholars are pursuing Ph. D.
The laboratories of Zoology Department are well equipped with sophisticated state of the art instruments and library. The faculty members effectively adopt new teaching methods such as audio-visual presentation, group discussion, team teaching, on hand training, project and field trips. The periodical departmental Association activities such as quiz, paper presentations, debate, exhibitions and guest lectures enhance the student’s skills and aptitude.
The teachers regularly update themselves by attending Refresher courses, Orientation courses, Seminars and Workshops. The other best practices of the department include First Aid and Health Counselling to the needy in the campus and effective propaganda against the use of plastics in the campus.

- To nurture a Department that provides excellent teaching, research and consultancy Services in the field of Biology, for the enhancement of local society.

- To provide quality education which equips students with knowledge, insight and expertise required to contribute to the society as educators, scientist, administrators and entrepreneurs.
- To promote an application oriented research in agriculture, human health and wild life sustainability.
